I’m a sucker for all desserts, but when I found out that it was possible to make a cake that tasted like a Cinnamon Roll, my mind began doing back flips, literally! So immediately I did some research on how this could be made and came up with my own little spin on making a Cinnamon Roll cake.
I know you’re probably wondering what kind of concoction I put together in my kitchen and called a cake, but trust me, this concoction was a masterpiece. The texture of this Cinnamon Roll is out of this world. I don’t usually toot my own horn when it comes to anything I do. But honestly, this is a recipe that will have you hooked and it’s so simple and easy to throw together in a matter of minutes.
So let’s gather the Supplies!
White Cake Mix:
- 1 box of White Cake Mix
- 1 and 1/3 cup of Milk
- 1 cup of Sour Cream
- 4 large eggs
- 1/3 cup of Vegetable Oil
- 1 tsp of Pure Vanilla Extract
- 1 cup of Flour
- 1 cup of Sugar
- 1 tsp of Salt
- 1 box of White Chocolate Pudding
Cinnamon Roll Filling:
- 1/2 cup of melted Butter
- 1 cup of Brown Sugar
- 3 tbsp of Flour
- 1 tbsp of Cinnamon
Step 1: Starting with a base (White Cake Mix)
First, I decided to start with a base for the cake flavor which is my white cake recipe. I love this recipe because you can start with a white cake recipe and add different ingredients to bring about a different flavor. For example, if I wanted to make a strawberry cake, I would first put together the white cake recipe. After putting the white cake recipe together, next add in the strawberry flavoring, fresh blended strawberries, and strawberry pudding
The only ingredient to leave out in the white cake recipe would be the white chocolate pudding because you would be replacing the white chocolate pudding for the strawberry pudding since you would be making a strawberry cake. By adding these three ingredients, you will then have a strawberry cake.
To make the white cake (base) for the Cinnamon Roll Cake, first combine all of the wet ingredients together in a mixing bowl. Those ingredients consists of the milk, sour cream, eggs, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. After combining and mixing the wet ingredients together, now you will combine the dry ingredients together. Those ingredients are the white cake mix, flour, sugar, and pudding mix and salt. After combining those ingredients, whisk together for at least 30 seconds.
Now you will take the dry ingredients and pour a little at a time into the mixer. Please make sure to have the mixer on a low speed because I would hate for you to loose all of your ingredients to the walls and the floors. We all know, that’s where it will most like be once it’s splattered all over the place.
After pouring all of the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, mix for a remaining 30 seconds. Place the white cake mix into 3 prepared 8 inch round pans. If you would like to learn a nifty trick for preparing a cake pan without it getting stuck to the pan, check out ….. You will be happy you did!
Step 2: Making the Cinnamon Roll Filling
In this step, you will pour the melted butter, sugar, flour, and cinnamon into a bowl and whisk together. Whisk the ingredients together for at least 10 seconds or less until all of the ingredients are fully combined together. Also make sure to scrape the sides of the bowl just to make sure none of the ingredients get left behind. The mixture will be pretty thick, which is great for whats about to happen.
Step 3: Adding the Cinnamon Roll Filling to the Cake Mix
Now that you have prepared the white cake mix and the cinnamon roll filling, you can begin adding the filling to the cake mix. Using a spoon, place 3 spoonfuls of cinnamon filling into each cake pan. I always go a little overboard but I believe 3 spoonfuls is a great amount to add to each cake pan.
After adding the cinnamon filling to each cake pan, take a butter knife and begin making swirls in each pan. It should look like marble cake but without the chocolate cake mix. Once you have made swirls in each pan, place the cake into the oven on 325 degrees for 35-40 minutes. Its best to check your cake before the time that it’s set to come out because it may cook a little faster.
Step 4: Adding frosting/Decorating the cake
In this step, you can pretty much use whatever flavor of frosting for the cake. I prefer to go with Cream Cheese Frosting. Cream Cheese frosting is literally the bomb! It goes great with so many desserts. But the main reason why I chose cream cheese frosting was from a Cinnamon Roll that I had from Cinnabon. It was really delicious. So I basically tried to imitate that flavor.
If you’re looking for a silky smooth and light tasting cream cheese frosting, this article will definitely show you how to the way to go! After crumb coating and covering the cake in cream cheese frosting, you can add pecans to the exterior of the cake as a garnish or even decorate the cake with fondant for a more elaborate design.
So let’s try it!!
I absolutely love this recipe. It’s foolproof and always come out great each time. More than anything, it doesn’t take up too much of your time to make and you can even eat it for breakfast.
Yes!!! I said breakfast! Who wouldn’t want to eat this delicious, soft and most Cinnamon Roll Cake for breakfast. I hope that this will become your go to recipe and as always, remember to have fun with your cakes because that’s what it’s all about anyway!
